About Us

 Adelaide Youth Orchestras

Each year Adelaide Youth Orchestras provides around 250 of South Australia’s most talented young musicians with the opportunity to flourish in a vibrant musical environment. Selected from a wide demographic, based on musical talent, these young performers make a dynamic contribution to the state’s creative landscape. Performing the classics and new works, our orchestras reach diverse audiences across city and regional settings.

As a body, AdYO features four distinct orchestras: the Adelaide Youth Strings, Adelaide Youth Sinfonia, Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra, and the flagship Adelaide Youth Orchestra comprising about 80 of South Australia’s most accomplished musicians, aged 8 to 24.

AdYO’s artistic leadership is provided by Keith Crellin OAM. Applying his expertise and mentorship skills, as well as ensuring our students receive guidance from other leading musical educators (including professional musicians from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Australian String Quartet, the Elder Conservatorium of Music and the SA Police Band), Keith inspires and nurtures the next generation of musicians. Some of our young performers will go on to become international soloists or members of Australia’s symphony orchestras or music teachers, but all will gain lifelong benefits from their experience with South Australia’s leading youth music organisation.

Each year our senior orchestra presents a three-concert Maestro Series of masterpieces, while the Adelaide Youth Strings, Adelaide Youth Sinfonia and Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra deliver an exciting mix of community and schools performances. An annual highlight is AdYO’s Gala Concert, where all four orchestras come together to perform in the great acoustic of the Adelaide Town Hall. Additionally, our expanding outreach activities include community concerts in regional venues and performances in retirement villages across metropolitan Adelaide plus an education program in primary and secondary schools inspiring fellow students to participate in the arts.
