Welcome to the 2020 Season.

After nearly 20 years as Artistic Director of AdYO, I have no doubt that performing and sharing music is one of the greatest privileges one can experience in life. I have seen many young people discover the sheer joy of playing in our ensembles and have been honoured to be a part of their musical development.

There are many highlights this year, including Verdi’s masterpiece, Requiem Mass, performed with a large choir in the Adelaide Festival Centre, a combined concert with the Elder Conservatorium Orchestra featuring Mahler’s monumental first symphony, Tchaikovsky’s last great work, his Symphony No.6, the Pathétique, and the return of alumnus violinist Tianyou Ma from his studies at the Curtis Institute to perform the ever popular Tchaikovsky violin concerto. The year will again culminate in our gala concert, where all groups come together at the Adelaide Town Hall to celebrate youth in music.

We give a special thank you to the Klein Family Foundation. As well as having supported our Maestro Series for the last five years, we are pleased to announce that the Klein Family Foundation will support the formation of a new junior wind ensemble to be conducted by Bryan Griffiths. It is an exciting development to be able to provide essential training in wind ensemble playing for very young musicians.

Thanks are also due to our other sponsors: the James and Diana Ramsay Foundation, the RAA, The Advertiser, Day Family Foundation, Fisher Jeffries and Alfred James. Along with our donors, their valuable contributions to our programs make it possible for our organisation to continue to grow. Our many schools’ concerts continue this year along with our Senior Heroes concerts in retirement homes, and our chamber groups will continue to flourish under the guidance of professional tutors.

I would also like to acknowledge our extended family of parents and volunteers, who work tirelessly alongside the dedicated AdYO staff in the organisation.

Join us in our 2020 season and experience the excitement that is generated by our orchestras. The infectious enthusiasm of our musicians will fill you with joy and delight.
